Per Fredda's post - "Our last regular class meeting is TUESDAY, MAY 19. People who are ready to present their work may do so. EVERYONE needs to have their prototype work printed and set up for critique."
I vote that we present on the final day, TUESDAY, MAY 26.
I NEED the time to prepare my presentation. As it is, I will be working on my panels tomorrow... ekk - this is the worst time to be going to press at my newspaper job.
Also, we need to script the intro, which I personal vote Linda to deliver... Anyone else thoughts?

Linda's panels ... filling up?

Are these too busy?
I'm having trouble balancing the demands of the assignment (Thought, Dialogue, Action) and desire to educate and inform with the fact that it all begins to look very cluttered when I begin to add in facts, etc. Even my 7 year old said that there was too much going on. (And I'm not even done with panel 1 yet.) However, he WAS l0oking at them all together, and when viewed in isolation they are maybe okay.
Also, FYI, I lost a lot of work both Friday and today from overloading the machines. I am trying to work big to start, but BEWARE, it's dangerous. I have to go in and give paragraph styles to my type.
Help?
Meg

My apologies
Hi all-
Sorry I missed class. In my rush today I emailed Fredda, and forgot to cc all of you. I had to go to Roseville today for an MRI of my ankle.
I was hoping to get an update from you all...
Thanks,
Amanda

Hi!
Sorry I had to leave early. AND I'm having problems finding a babysitter for tonight, as my husband is out of town.
Where are we as a group? Are we each coming up with the donation card look and feel and then donating or ??
Did we decided to just go with "What if" or with "Color a Life"? OR??
What other elements are we going to have in common?
I was dreaming about this last night.
Let me know.
Thanks,
MEg

Hi everybody,
Here are links to two reports that might be helpful.
First a report on arts education in California:
http://policyweb.sri.com/cep/publications/AnUnfinishedCanvasSummaryReport.pdfSecond, details about how the state budget crisis impacts Livermore in particular.
Click on the
2009-02-24: COMMUNITY FORUM BUDGET UPDATE to get Facts and Figures about the budget situation.
There is also a link to the proposed budget reductions which were approved or will be approved at the next school board meeting.

Any one able to meet?
Since our presentation is next week, Meg and I were hoping we could find a time when we could all meet to discuss our project. We will both be in the Illustrator class from 10 to 3ish on Friday. Maybe we could meet at Starbuck's at 9? I am open to other suggestions if that wont work.

Can we vote or something?
Hi!
I'd like to get to work on this, but I don't really want to waste a lot of time researching things that we are not going to end up using.
Can we take a vote or something and move forward with one idea?
I know it's Spring Break, but my kids have off NEXT week, and I'd like to spend time with them.
Thanks.

Hi All-
Sounds like a great project. Sorry to have missed class! I have a cause that is VERY close to my heart. It is called the Biletnikoff Foundation.
http://www.biletnikoff.net/
Fred and Angela Biletnikoff were devastated when their daughter, Tracey, was brutally murdered by someone she dated. To ensure that Tracey's spirit and dreams live on and are not forgotten, they established the Tracey Biletnikoff Foundation (now the Biletnikoff Foundation), a non-profit organization dedicated to the support of young women recovering from substance abuse, and education for the prevention of domestic violence.
They have a home in Alameda where up to 6 girls at a time a taken from the system and selected to live at Tracey's Place of Hope. They are supervised 24-7 and given counselors, therapy, education, healthcare, etc.
So if I understand correctly, we all bring in our research next week and then vote on one to persue?

What this is about
Josh and Amanda,
The overall scope of the project is on the class website and it is also helpful to check out the link at adobe.
As I understand it (Meg and Jaclyn, correct me if you got something different) right now, we are working in groups to research possible causes to work on. As a group, we are to research several possible causes that could be helped by educating and mobilizing the community. Fredda and Bridget suggested that each person pick a different cause and come back with research on that. Then, after we have done the research, we all decide on one cause and on basic images to use in our designs. The cause should be local to the tri-valley and bring about positive change (no calls to overthrow the government). Some examples from my notes were helping blood banks, veterans, CALWORKS for single parents, education and mentoring Junior High students.
The design work is done individually, with feedback from our group, so that we end up with 5 designs for our particular cause. After our final presentations, we will vote on one design from each group which will be printed full-sized and displayed in public places.
Hope this helps
Linda

Brainstorming
School funding for arts programs is a very near and dear to me. I know that the Livermore school district plans to make big cuts to its music program in light of reduced budgets for next year and I'm sure other school districts are facing tough budgets as well. There is a small but dedicated group in Livermore that has fought since 1991 to raise money to keep arts and sports (and reduced class sizes) alive in Livermore.
Other ideas: I have heard that local soup kitchens are in trouble with more need and fewer donations.
The veterans hospital for the tri-valley is slated to close. There might be some community action that could help there.
Ideas.....
Ok so here are some of the things floating around in my head...
-Racial Equality (although not sure if this would apply TOO much to bay area)
-Encouraging funding for school art programs (thought this would be good since we're all involved in this, all of us being in an art program ourselves, but Im talking about grade/middle/high schools.)
thats all I got so far.
thoughts?

Oh, man! Bad day to be absent!
Ok! I'm in. Have we picked a concept yet? I'm excited to work with you guys!
